A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, it was 1977 and Star Wars: A New Hope was about to be released. Fans at the time went wild for the characters that George Lucas brought to the screen, and everyone involved in the making of the film had their life changed forever. It’s been forty years since the release of the first film, and since then there have been a total of seven films released, including two sequels to the original film, a prequel trilogy, a sequel to the original films and even a spin-off movie, not to mention three separate animated TV shows and various video games. Let’s just say the franchise really took off.
Star Wars is a pop culture phenomenon, and it’s only growing bigger since Disney purchased the rights from George Lucas. Today, April 13th, will see the start of the Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, Florida. The celebration is a three-day event jam packed with announcements for fans and celebrating the legacy that is the Star Wars franchise. Despite the event happening in Orlando, fans from all around the world can tune in via the Star Wars celebration website, or the Star Wars Youtube channel for a live streaming of the celebration. Here are some of the biggest events to look out for over the next few days:
Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer
The hype is real for The Last Jedi, and fans will finally get a taste of what’s to come on Friday 14th April at 16:00 local time. The event will include a panel discussion about the film with director Rian Johnson and cast members such as Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill and Adam Driver. A trailer for the upcoming movie has been confirmed as a teaser, but apparently has a ‘full trailer feel’ to it. This is one event not to be missed by fans.
First Look at Star Wars: Battlefront 2
For those of you that already know, a trailer leaked yesterday for the upcoming sequel to 2015’s Battlefront. Despite the leak, this event will give a lot more insight into what’s been going on regarding the development of the game, touching on the gameplay itself as well. A confirmed single-player is already a massive improvement over the previous title, with the leaked trailer also stating that there will be content from all Star Wars eras. Fans can tune into the event on Saturday 15th at 20:30 local time. Please EA, no season pass tomfoolery this time.
Carrie Fisher Tribute
In late 2016, the world lost Carrie Fisher, known for her integral role in the original trilogy as Princess Leia. Fisher reprised her role as the princess in 2015’s The Force Awakens and will even appear in The Last Jedi later on this year. Fans were heartbroken by the news of Fisher’s passing and tributes poured in from all around the world. A special tribute will begin at 22:30 local time on Friday 14th to commemorate the life of the real life Princess Leia.
These are the most anticipated events of the celebration this weekend, but the whole four days promises to be a treat for fans far and wide. Remember that you can go to the official website of Star Wars Celebration for a live stream of the day’s events, or even to the official Star Wars Youtube channel. The celebration kicks off today at 15:00 local time, and until then, may the force be with you.
