The term “Brexit” is one used to refer to the planned withdrawal from the European Union by the United Kingdom. This withdrawal was imposed following the result of a referendum in 2016, wherein just under 52% of turnout of 72% of the electorate voted in favour of leaving the European Union. PM Theresa May formally triggered the proceedings by invoking Article 50 on 29th March 2017; making Great Britain the first country to ever invoke this article and leave the Union. May will have to negotiate deals with EU leaders that would safeguard the position of her country in terms of security, safety, movement and trade among others. The UK will have till April 2019 to complete Brexit and leave the Union; deal or no deal.
