The Department of English Students Association (DESA) have announced their new Executive team for the upcoming 2018/19 term.
Founded in 2006, DESA’s aim is to represent students within all English courses at the University of Malta and to maintain a fresh outlook on subjects relating to English through a number of events, but academic and social. DESA for instance this year organised a Book Club, where students got together to discuss several contemporary literary works. Writing competitions were also organised, and students from the department all had the opportunity to contribute to DESA’s annual publication; the magazine Text. Academically, the student organisation also provide students with the opportunity to become acquainted with the department’s post-graduate course options, through Meet Your M.E.N, with M.E.N standing for Masters in English Now. This year proved to be an especially well attended event, with students taking advantage of the event to learn about Masters courses and also about potential career avenues that they could follow.
The new DESA team will no doubt be working over the course of the next academic year to follow in the footsteps of these events. The people trusted to do so by University’s English students are the following;
President – Mireille Caruana
Vice-president – Ylenia Attard
PRO – Kelly Mifsud Bonavia
Events Officer – Terence Mifsud
International Officer – Bettina Borg
Text Editors – Melanie Zammit and Jake Aquilina
Second Year Representative – Michaela Galea
Third Year Representative – Helena Camilleri
The Yuppie would like to wish the best of luck to the new board for the upcoming year!
